Think about this flexible learning option for your leaders and managers of volunteers...

Volunteering New Zealand in partnership with Xperts Ltd provides the ‘Introduction to Managing Volunteers Course’ to anyone who is interested.

This is an online course which takes six weeks to complete at your own pace. The course is a tightly focused leadership programme which is estimated to take about two hours a week on average.

The course teaches participants about their role in relation to volunteers and how best to engage, manage and retain volunteers. It also provides information on legislative requirements, rights and responsibilities when it comes to volunteers and access to relevant management resources.

The course information is available on the VNZ website. Included in enrolment fees is an online course book, study notes, personal support from a course tutor, a course forum, an online self-marking assessment and a course certificate once the course is completed.

2012 courses are schdeuled to begin on 5 March and 7 May.

International Volunteer Day – Celebrating Diverse Volunteers for 10 years

2011 marks the ten year anniversary of International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10) which ties in with International Volunteer Day this coming Monday.

The Christchurch Earthquake, Rena disaster and Rugby World Cup have all provided numerous and diverse ways for New Zealanders to get involved with volunteering this year.

Executive Director of Volunteering New Zealand, Vanisa Dhiru says that “Volunteers are the foundation of our society, proven throughout 2011 with volunteers building and promoting New Zealand”.

“Volunteering New Zealand calls for the social profit sector to get creative on role planning and development of volunteer jobs, and be sure to explore the skills that potential volunteers can offer for the time they can offer. Get to know your potential volunteer force and use them in the best way possible to achieve your objectives and mission.”

Governor-General becomes Patron of Volunteering New Zealand

Volunteering New Zealand is pleased to announce the Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, as their Patron.

Volunteering New Zealand’s Chairperson Gillian Peacock says that “Sir Jerry Mateparae has a passion for volunteering in New Zealand and is the ideal patron for our organisation”.

This evening the Governor-General is hosting a reception at Government House Wellington, as part of International Volunteer Day (5 December). Invited guests include volunteers, managers of volunteers and community leaders.

Sir Jerry and Lady Janine Mateparae recognise the value of volunteering, and the commitment and diversity of the thousands of volunteers around the country.
