VNZ Conference registration update

Online registration for VNZ's Conference is still open, but available places are limited. The conference will be on the 8 and 9 November 2007 at Te Papa, Wellington and is being organised by Volunteering New Zealand with support from SPARC and IHC. With an opening Powhiri at 9am (arrival time of 8.30am) on 8 November, the conference will conclude at 4.00pm, Friday 9 November.

It is expected that the participants will include those with key roles in determining the future development of volunteer services - those who determine volunteering service policies, are involved in providing resources required for effective volunteering and those directly involved in managing volunteer services. There will be a limit of a maximum 120 places at the conference.

The conference themes will include:

  • the issues and trends confronting volunteering in the 21st century;
  • corporate social responsibility, community support and volunteering;
  • resourcing volunteering into the future,
  • innovation in volunteer management practice;
  • volunteering and major events
  • leaving a legacy for volunteering in 2032.

A range of break out sessions will cover particular aspects of these themes in more detail.

The keynote speakers who have been provisionally confirmed include:

Rev Maurice Gray, the Maori member on the VNZ Board and Upoko of Te Runaka ki Otautahi o Kai Tahu, the Kai Tahu urban authority of Christchurch. He is involved in the leadership education programmes for CEOs of government agencies, corporations and voluntary sector organisations. He serves on many boards at the national level, focusing on education, policing and social services

Kaylee Bates, former Deputy CEO of Volunteering Australia. In that role she was responsible for a range of projects and activities, including managing Volunteering Australia's policy development and advice role. She also represented Volunteering Australia in a number of overseas forums.

Nick Jones, the founder of Nick Jones and Associates Ltd, who has a vision to ensure that partnerships between Public, Private and Non-Profit sectors can successfully communicate with "Consumers who Care" and make a difference to those that need it. He previously spent 6 years as Executive Director of Nielsen Media Research New Zealand and AGB Nielsen Media.

Rod Oram a respected international and New Zealand journalist. He is currently Contributing Editor at Unlimited, a New Zealand monthly magazine devoted to the development of the new economy; a columnist for the Sunday Star-Times; a regular broadcaster on radio and television and a frequent public speaker on business and economic issues He is also an Adjunct Professor in the New Zealand Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Unitec.

Martin J Cowling the founder and CEO of People First -Total Solutions, an international consulting and training firm focusing on volunteer engagement, strategic planning, and board development. He possesses almost 20 years of management experience with organizations including UNICEF, AFS Intercultural Programs, The Smith Family, and Victorian Relief.

Early bird registration of $295 plus GST will be available untilend of September with the on-line registration facility fully open and available through the VNZ website.

"Optimising the Energy of Volunteering" - A Carbon Neutral Conference:
Volunteering New Zealand, with the help of Flow Events Ltd, is taking steps in the planning and holding of this conference to make sure that the impact of the event to the environment is minimised.

Delegates to the conference are given the opportunity to make their attendence 'carbon neutral'. 'Carbon neutral delegates' will be given special nametags to mark their contribution and commitment to the environment.
