Volunteering Changemakers Hui, 20 September 2024

Volunteering New Zealand invites volunteering leaders and co-ordinators to come together in Christchurch on 20 September.  The hui will focus on volunteer management and practice, valuing volunteering and approaches to volunteer engagement.

With plenty of networking opportunities, collaboration and great speakers and content, you will engage and collaborate with peers, be inspired and share new ideas and learn and ignite new ideas and practices.

Learn and share your experiences about:

  • Strengthening resilience for voluntary organisations and groups
  • Good practice and innovation from across Aotearoa
  • Return on investment for volunteers and volunteer leaders
  • Changemakers share their stories of innovation
  • Exploring tech and tools that can make your job easier

You will:

  • Be inspired by a range of practitioners and thought leaders
  • Increase your capability to influence, collaborate, and lead others
  • Learn how to engage effectively with volunteers and about good practice
  • Connect with peers, share, and learn together.

Keynote speakers and facilitated discussions will focus on volunteer management and practice, valuing volunteering, and approaches to volunteer engagement. Confirmed speakers include Minister Louise Upston, The Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector and international speaker Tony Goodrow, President of Better Impact.

19 September – Mini masterclasses and networking event 

We are offering additional optional half-day Masterclasses on 19 September. Mini masterclasses options include:

  • Reporting and the full value of Volunteer Engagement, Tony Goodrow – President Better Impact.
  • Best Practice Guidelines Deep Dive half day workshop, Volunteering New Zealand.

These will be followed by an optional networking event in the evening of the 19th.

  • Non-member NFP/Community Sector Volunteering Changemakers Hui – full day 20th September $289.00
  • Non-member Public or Business Sector: Volunteering Changemakers Hui – full day 20th September $325.00

Ticket information

  • The Changemakers Hui and mini masterclasses can be purchased separately
  • A closing networking event is included in the Changemakers Hui on the 20th from 4pm. 
  • There are two mini masterclasses to choose from on the 19th. You can buy separately.
  • A smaller networking event is being held on Thursday 19th September. This can also be bought separately.
  • Pricing within Humanitix includes gst and also a small platform ticketing fee.

Your Speakers

Keynote speakers (more to come) and facilitated discussions will focus on wellbeing, leadership, and inclusion, the three key strands that have surfaced as being important to the sector.

Minister Louise Upston

Louise Upston is the Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector, Minister for Social Development and Employment, and Minister for Child Poverty Reduction. She has served as the MP for Taupō since the 2008 election.

Louise held a number of Ministerial roles in the Fifth National Government, including the portfolios of Corrections, Education, Land Information, Local Government, Women, and Tertiary Education Skills and Employment.

Dr Andrew Lensen

Dr Andrew Lensen is a Senior Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, specialising in explainable and interdisciplinary AI. His research explores AI’s social and ethical implications, with applications in ecology, legal decision-making, and more. Dr Lensen is an active science communicator, frequently contributing op-eds, interviews, and expert commentary on AI-related topics.

Moumita Das Roy

Moumita Das Roy is a cross-industry marketer with a wealth of experience in iconic global organisations. Recognised as a Creator to Follow and a Social Impact Top Community Voice on LinkedIn, she is a prolific content creator who passionately engages in Diversity and Inclusion, Social Impact, and Volunteering conversations.
