The Guidelines give a snapshot view of your organisation and its people, identifying:

    • Opportunities for change
    • Barriers to change
    • How to make change happen
    • Actions for continuous improvement
    • Ways to improve productivity and support innovation

    Background

VNZ’s work with volunteer-involving organisations around their adoption of best practice culture has been hailed as innovative and world-leading.
Supporting development of managers of volunteers and the organisations they work within, has been a key VNZ focus since 2010.

The creation of the Best Practice Guidelines for Volunteer-Involving Organisations (the Guidelines), is a central part of this.

At its core, the development of the Guidelines is work mandated and crafted by Aotearoa New Zealand’s volunteer-involving organisations themselves.

With the government’s launch of a workplace initiative to provide practical support to firms wanting to introduce High Performance Working (HPW) practices, came the opportunity for VNZ to apply to Callaghan Innovation, to operationalise the Guidelines, and build on the earlier best practice in volunteering work.

Callaghan Innovation funding has enabled work with 12 VNZ member organisations, and collaboration with the sector (through targeted workshops and seminars), around their adoption of best practice goals.

The active phase of the Best Practice in Action programme commenced in May 2014, with this work and funding ending in June, 2015.
